Best Beauty De-clutter Tips

Covid Clean
With so many items that you use all the time It’s no surprise that many of us are hoarders when it comes to makeup and skincare, toiletries, haircare, especially bedroom vanities and bathroom Cabinets. When was the last time you checked the expiration dates on your bottles, scattered cotton buds, half empty toothpaste, mascara tubes, half used bottles of shampoo..
Clean and sanitise every shelf, box, tray, and storage area...
Mine is currently overflowing with beauty products, did you know that it is one of the largest area of plastic waste in our homes.  I am so proud I have reduced my bathroom to a minimum. Tuck everything away, make space with baskets, and stylish organised containers. disinfect drawers, wipe down surfaces throw out old blenders as they hold a host of bacteria... that you would not wish near your face. Makeup brushes should be cleaned on a regular basis and stored correctly.

Simplify beauty and bath products, check what you use on a regular basis over 2-3 days and create storage for those items.

All unopened and in date items should be boxed or donated to friends and even local charities, with everything else take to the local waste disposal. Keep your bedroom as a place of Zen, relaxation and calm.

Global footprint

The industry’s plastic footprint has grown with the amount of plastic packaging for beauty and personal care products, makes up nearly $25 billion in sales unfortunately, most of it is not recyclable.
Local authorities collection rules vary widely in the UK, many people are confused to what can and cannot go into the recycling box.
We love the decorative plastic wrappings, paper inserts, cardboard sleeves, mirrored glass, all adding to the aesthetics of the product, but are damaging the planet and in some cases killing animals habitats by polluting the land and sea.

What can we do to help, look at the mess in the bathrooms? Lets make a start today....

Bathroom Joy
  • Throw out ALL expired products and medications including makeup, shampoos, etc
  • Skincare samples that you have not used, razors, toothpaste, moldy makeup sponges, soaps, bath bombs.
  • Half used items were the main offenders in my bathroom.
  • BIN any makeup or items not used in the last 6 months
  • Use tidy storage boxes or cases
Make a list of the items you need for your newly improved daily skincare routine, when you are out shopping or ordering on line only grab those bargains that are on your list.
Only purchase beauty items you cannot live without, if they are on such an amazing deal check the dates before bulk buying. When choosing your beauty purchases, look for items that simplify your life, and give you more time in the morning but still maintain the quality, of great brands but with less packaging.

Shelf Life
Always read the labels
  • Foundations 6 months to 2 years
  • Perfumes 2-5 years depending on the quality of the brand
  • Lip products 1-2 years
  • Mascara 3-4 months
  • Eyeshadow 2-3 years
  • Nail polish 1-3 years
Use this timeline as a guide, ensure all beauty products are stored away from heat, radiators and sunlight. Clean and check all lids, for leakages including that lids are closed and the containers are air tight. Another important check will be the consistency, texture and smell of the contents, as some products may go off before their expiration dates, if not stored or closed correctly.

I will continue to de-clutter and make my home minimal, especially my wardrobe, and yes my shoes. I love the bathroom and bedroom, you will be so pleased with the results.. it has been satisfying journey, saving  time when getting ready
