My Day at Professional Beauty London 28th -29th February

My Day at Professional Beauty 2016

London's International convention Centre 'ExCel' played host to 800 brands this year, at the largest Professional Beauty exhibition in Europe. I traveled with Beauty blogger Little Miss Sing Song from Kent to explore the latest innovations, and evolving Skincare and Beauty techniques from around the Globe.

I was really looking forward to reviewing many of the exciting new beauty product launches and visiting a few educational seminars.

As a Professional Makeup Artiste and Beauty Therapist, we are constantly searching for amazing brands and innovative products for clients. Professional Beauty is a one 'stop shop' for students, lecturers, retailers and distributors. This 2 day London Beauty seminar created fevered excitement on social media with therapists and attendees tweeting and posting several weeks before the Event. This same energy and excitement was also present in the vast competition halls, creating a buzz at all of the Educational seminars.

I was surprised at the vast array of International treatments, and IT Technology for Salons and Spa's from high performance Global companies. I stopped at the cutting edge Glitter nails, Mink Lash Bars, Immaculate Teeth whitening, and a throng of willing creative massage therapists. I was aware of the huge line of students, firmly positioned at the Counter of UK the favourite blogger's brand. Many therapists were not to be able to shop view or purchase at NYX due to the 60 minute queue. I left the hardcore makeup and nail students to continue in their retail quest. 

I was more than happy to find a more sedate relaxation area, with spiritually awakening Spa Therapies to soothe my back, neck and shoulders. Hurrah, No gimmicky therapies! Gone are the 'Fish Pedicure' or 'BeJazzling' Brazilian styled ladies garden this year! I loved the Brow Bars and innovative makeup glitters for the body, lips and eyes..Simply DIVINE.

The products, and Celebrity endorsed brands were a huge influence, especially on the large spray tanning stages. The St.Tropez seminar was excellent, with a flawless display that created a Summer Glow that was streak free with none of the familiar tanning fragrance. I was most impressed at the 'ShopnDrop' station, where those laden with recently purchased goodies could unload, shop and go onto more stands 'Hands free', an excellent idea and a Beauty blogger's dream!

On arriving at London ExCel, I spied the Award winning UK Celebrity hair stylist Derek Murray, and Charlie Kerr who were also attending Salon London at ExCel. Desmond invited us to visit The Professional Hair Show to view his hair demonstration, on the Live Stage.

I finished my day in the Press room enjoying a glass of Bubbly...and enjoyed the delights of a vibrating Foot Fetiche pedicure, check out the review!

"One of the Best Thai Green Curries I have had!"  Foodie in the City

My recent visit to a local recommended well loved eatery in the heart of Chiselhurst Kent, prompted me to let you know of my latest 'Foodie' secret discovery.

"The TY-8 Restaurant"

This understated yet significantly restaurant exudes a rich and decadent atmosphere, yet inviting and intimate rolled into one! With such a truly diverse selection of Oriental food, it makes for a superb and relaxed dining experience. I would thoroughly recommend a visit if you are in Uber trendy Kent. 

The smartly dressed staff were also friendly as we took our time enjoying the starter, and selection of wines, all explained competently. The delicious combinations were numerous from start to finish and consisted of authentic, Asian platter, and Sushi which looked simply amazing! 

A UK Soap Star 'Celebrity' had arrived, and loyal customers in the restaurant stopped briefly by their table and took 'selfies', as if they were long lost family friends.  We were so pleased not to be rushed whilst making our numerous food choices, with so many options for the main course it was tempting to stay all night! 

The ultra-modern menu included great fusions, and delighted all our senses with rich aromas from China, Japan, and the best Thai food I have experienced. I could smell the spicy aroma of South East Asia as our selection of food including Caviar Prawns and Thai Green Curry approached our table. I also possess a really sweet tooth, so I found it difficult to decide which of the tempting mouthwatering desserts on the sweet trolley, I would try.

So I sampled both of these delightful dishes!! We look forward to another visit very soon.

I would strongly recommend booking in advance as this is a Gem in the Chiselhurst Village and is always busy. We will be returning soon..Fantastic Food Great Service! A fantastic experience.

Creative Makeup at Professional Beauty 2016


                             WAR PAINT LIVE STAGE 

The Creative Makeup Live stage was filled anticipated excitement, as we waited the arrival of International Makeup artiste Armand Beasley. Many artistes gave a display of exceptional educational and creative skills on stage, demonstrating unique artistry, talent and skills. The Arena was buzzing with dedicated competitors, for The 2016 WARPAINT Championships, all skills and levels had entered the competition, an enthusiastic audience provided support and encouragement to those who wished to gain recognition, in the Makeup and Film Industry in the UK.

Professional Beauty invited selected students to show their talent in front of some of the biggest names in the Industry. The categories included The Circus, Beach Babe, Tribal and Post Apocalypse. 
Education and hygiene was key within the Delamar Academy programme, in particular at the workshops and makeup seminars for professional Makeup Artiste. I had to be dragged away from the Kryolan counter, and made several re-stock purchases including the excellent Primer.  The educators provided a demonstration on the best way to achieve, great contouring, and the best 'camera ready' looks. I had to also purchase their camouflage range, spray fixative, contour palette and water resistant concealers...fantastic for my beautiful brides.

Tips for choosing whats on your #BEAUTYSHELFIE

The use of Alcohol in skincare is a controversial subject, from the initial conception of a Skincare or Makeup line to the final completion with Brand Marketing on our TV screens, the consumer will almost always be interested in labels and what's in their Cosmetic product.. The creation of celebrity endorsed anti-ageing face creams, rejuvenating eye masks, miracle cleansers, and long lasting makeup products, will almost always include a group of substances with several combinations of Alcohol compounds.

Because alcohol has such excellent antiseptic and disinfectant properties, small quantities are often used as a unique and safe form of preservative. Almost all Certified Cosmetics will contain 100% natural alcohol only, extracted from plants, and fruits. The general public on purchasing these products will be safe in the knowledge that they contain No pesticides, GM modified ingredients, or Parabens. Many cosmetics houses will continue to find it challenging, to source alternative natural alcohol combinations. 

Certified Regulators collaborate with the strict regulations of the Food Standards Agency in the UK, to audit and licence only the finest quality products for Organic food, whilst observing limited regulation and guidance for skincare and cosmetic preparations. Many skincare houses still use many forms of alcohol combined with minimal quantities of petroleum, mineral oils, silicone and synthetics. These ingredients work in harmony to enhance the visual surface of the skin, in turn making it appear more beautiful, youthful radiant and attractive to the consumer. 

How can we be sure?

The confusion in the types of alcohol, and the safety of its use, can sometimes cloud the consumers view of alcohol.  Alcohol is mostly seen as one item, by many of the public, and the skilled terms used by Scientists to describe the many layers and derivatives of alcohol confuses most people. Continued and extensive research into the use of alcohol for the preservation of longer shelf life is important, and also a leading factor when costing Brands. However as potential consumers, we must be aware that leading Scientists, and highly skilled Dermatologist's are still unsure of the potential risks of prolonged use of alcohol on the skin and to the body.

Trying to establish which products to use can be a difficult and confusing task, especially as natural and synthetic alcohol's are here to stay. Hopefully with ongoing product development, Eco education, No modified or GM products, we will be able to make a healthy educated decision which brands are more beneficial our families and provide product purity for our children.

As a mother and qualified Holistic Beauty Therapist, I made a long term conscious decision to ensure that I research and try to source ethically safe Beauty and Makeup brands. I am working to include limited use of products that contain ingredients, which are not essentially beneficial to our skin.

I am a huge fan of natural skincare, and have made a personal and conscious decision use branded ranges that work to provide safe ingredients, ethical products, with cruelty free methods of research.
When it comes to professional education and safe research, we can all aim to ensure that we adopt a philosophical attitude to what's going into our bodies and onto our bathroom and vanity shelves!

Over the coming years in an ever changing world we must strongly recommend using brands that have passed stringent testing with ingredient listings, making ethical choices for all Beauty and Cosmetic products.


Why not actively start using brands that have smaller quantities of chemical ingredients, there are some fantastic companies out there! I intend to continue to choose my skincare preparations, beauty cosmetics with a healthy ethos, armed with as much information as possible. I am a huge fan of natural skincare, and have made a personal and conscious decision use branded ranges that work to provide safe ingredients, ethical products, with cruelty free methods of research.

There are good and bad alcohols when it comes to skincare, but with professional education and safe research, we can all aim to ensure that we adopt a philosophical attitude to what's going into our bodies and onto our bathroom and vanity shelves!
