 The Black Cultural Archives was founded in 1981, by educationalist and historian Len Garrison alongside several other dedicated people. 
The mission of BCA is to record, preserve and celebrate the history of people of African descent in Britain.

Having spent the early part of my fashion and beauty career working with my Mentor Neil Kenlock, 
I was honoured to be invited to the wonderful summer evening launch at the Black Cultural Archive in Brixton London.

We were honoured to witness a Celebration of Leaders who have worked or influenced the wider aspects of the British culture during the 1960's and 1970's.
This powerful exhibition unveils unpublished photos was launched by the Jamaican High commissioner his Excellency Mr Seth George Ramocan

I was fortunate to spend time during my Red carpet attendance of this memorable exhibition, to regale memories with some of the respected key heroes of British history. The featured unpublished black and white photographs from the archive collection of Neil Kenlock, truly captures images of the anti-discrimination marches, campaigns and community events. The exhibition is part of the Expectations Project which over a series of events aims to increase public awareness, exploring past historic moments with access to the archive collection.

Visitors can enjoy many of the communal areas of the historic building, whilst exploring the honest and unique story of African and Caribbean leaders. With an artistic eye and heartfelt dedication Neil Kenlock, was able to capture truly rare and iconic cultural moments.

I am so excited to welcome Debbie Tilley to the Cheryl Huggins MUA team! 

Debbie owns Pink Spaghetti Bromley and will be assisting me with all the Makeup and Beauty admin tasks – big and small including my blog..

After a long search I have found someone, who has displayed the talent, professionalism and drive to provide my small business with an administration service - things which are most important in running a successful business in this hectic Beauty and Fashion Industry.

Tell us about Pink Spaghetti and what you do.

Thank you, Cheryl - It's great to be on board! Pink Spaghetti is a virtual assistant business that specialises in helping small business owners to do all the things they don’t have time to do themselves. For some clients, that’s social media, email marketing and website updates, but for others it’s general admin, organisation and bookkeeping. It really does vary according to what the client likes (and doesn’t like) doing themselves.

What kind of clients do you work with?

My clients range from property management companies to frazzled mothers. Many of my clients are women business owners - probably because it's very often the woman of the household who is juggling not just their own business, but also a family and a busy household.

What made you go into business by yourself?

My mother ran a successful hairdressing business and she always talked so passionately about it. I have very fond memories of coming home from school to find ladies sat in the kitchen with their hair in curlers!

When I started a family of my own, it was a no-brainer. I wanted to be there for my daughter like my mum was. But I also wanted to have a career that I love. My mother died many years ago, but I still have the sign from her business on my wall and I hope she would be proud of me.

What’s the biggest challenge when running your business?

Work-life balance! My husband is also self-employed and it’s a constant juggle with my clients, his clients and childcare. My daughter got juice into my phone a couple of weeks ago and I was off radar for about a week while it got repaired. It was incredibly liberating!

Once your alarm goes off… I don’t have an alarm, I have a two-year-old! On the times when an alarm is needed though, I hit snooze at least three times. As a result, I always set my alarm 15-30 minutes before I actually need to get up.

My happy place is… a rock overlooking the ocean on an island just off the coast of Croatia with the sun going down and Otis Redding on my iPod. Bliss.

How To Create a Natural Soft Glam Makeup

Finding a Natural makeup look that is just perfect for you can seem a daunting task, trying to find a foundation that looks like your skin, or light in texture to give that completely natural flawless look. Applying a colour that is too light or too is dark will detract from your makeup features, and skin and can even cause your face to look completely unnatural.
first thing is to try and find or choose a colour that has tones a very similar shade to your own natural skin tone, this will accentuate your skin, eyes and physical features in a subtle way. perfect balance by enhancing your skin. For a perfect makeup look, follow the tips and guide to achieve a perfect balance by enhancing your skin using great makeup tips.

Hydrate the skin
Moisturize the skin daily to improve the skin surface, texture, and to add a nourishment and repair to the top layer of the skin. This also provides protection form harsh external elements and especially important if you are prone to sensitivity, redness, pigmentation Please wear SUN PROTECTION during the day to avoid premature ageing and even skin cancers anything from a SPF 30 upwards is a great start. 

A balance of additional oil and water hydration, preferably organic will allow the skin to repair, soften dry patches and give a smoother surface for your makeup to be applied. The benefits for using a Primer are numerous and there are many skin primers that will give filter-like radiance and definition to the skin. There are gels, creams and even spray's that can be used as a primer, the products benefits may also include a longer lasting makeup throughout the day.

Conceal
Remove any unwanted marks, blemishes or dark circles, by using using a foundation or concealer product 2-3 shades lighter than your natural skin tone with a carefully applied brush or blender. a great tip is to leave the concealing product to sit on the skin (to warm or 'Bake' ) to add a deeper layer of coverage and concealment.

Foundation 
I love to recommend with natural makeup looks, an additional SPF from 30 upwards depending upon you skin type and condition and the temperatures where you live. This additional layer of sunscreen will provide more protection for the skin from the harmful UVA and UVB rays than puchasing a foundation that includes one. 
For those of you that require a more dewy complexion or radiant 'no Makeup look', apply your foundation evenly for best results.  Many brands have tinted foundations that give depth and shade to the skin tone, with additional blurring effects, gold or diamond dust particles all to give your skin that desired rested, 10 years younger glow!
Finally, add a light dusting of mineral powder or translucent powder finely milled with a big fluffy brush, this will set the makeup to the skin resulting in a natural flawless finish everytime.

Best Brows
Have your brows professionally groomed, coloured and shaped to maintain the perfect arch for your features and hair. There are many hair removal options available, including waxing, threading or tweezing. On finding your best method use powders, gels or waxes to keep them in shape and to add a light definition to frame the face.

Blusher

A subtle cream, liquid water colour, or powder blush will accentuate the face shape and define the eyes, depending on your skin tone, you can choose a shade that will add a hint of colour gently buffing or blending across the cheekbones never going too close to the nose and only using a small amount of product. the less product you use the more professionally blended your makeup will look.

Eyeshadow

Choose a neutral or skin shade that matches your skin tone, this will add shades of definition as a base or transition colour. Look for muted shades of beige, deep red browns, or even apply a pearly shimmer to your under brow area, creating a more evening glamourous smokey eye. If leaving a smudgy eyeliner out of your natural look, is far too basic and natural for you, why not invest in a mid brown powder or pencil eyeliner to line and open the eyes, this will enhance the area without the makeup application look heavy.

Mascara

Apply thin layers of brown or black mascara, and build the layers to add depth and fullness. A fuller lash can look flattering and open the eye, for darker skin tones why not try a coloured mascara on the tips of the lash.  To give the lashes extra protection and repair opt for a lash conditioning mascara.

Lips

What is your Go to colour? What is your favourite texture? Do you prefer a matte, Gloss or cream lipstick to complete your look. For the perfect natural soft glamour makeup look always choose a colour that is similar to your lip tone or a shade that will accentuate and flatter your makeup look. Another suggestion or favourite of many models, and celebrities when not working is to add a lip scrub treatment the day or night before application of colour for instant smoothness. To complete the look add your favourite lipstick then blend with just a lip liner.

The famous creators of Art, Fashion, Music, and Film graced this pinnacle of Fashion and Culture with innovation and beauty joined forces to deliver a snapshot of elegance, style whilst they joined forces to celebrate the annual exhibition opening. In its 70th anniversary year this prestigious Gala has raised millions of dollars for the Met Costume Institute. 

 Hosted by American Vogue Editor Anna Wintour since 1995,  the 2018 Met Gala was co-chaired by Rihanna, Amal Clooney, and Donatella Versace. Originally founded by Eleanor Lambert 1948 The Costume Institute Gala was the society party of the year. Tickets are only available for selected guests personally invited by the host.

 This year has been phenomenal for Rap music mum-to-be international chart sensation took over the Met Gala red carpet entrance with her Queen Cardi B angelic ensemble, created by Jeremy Scott for Moshino. The Gala delivered the best in beauty, style and grace with SZA, Katy Perry wearing a gold Versace chain mail dress with dramatic angelic wings, the stunning Zoe Kravitz was astonished in barely there black see-through lace.

 Gigi Hadid arrived in an elegant embellished navy and gold asymmetric gown by Donatella Verscace. Beauty goddess of the year 'shone bright like a diamond' celebrating the Met Gala with a papal styled pope mobile, Rihanna wore a jewel encrusted gown by Maison Margiela.

British Vogue cover model Cara Delevingne brought added beauty drama with a creation by Christian Dior including a full faced caged ensemble. Regal chivalry and handsome debonaire was also evident by the men who brought their A Game, Virgil Abloh delivered style and unique kingly style in embroidered Louis Vuitton. Nicki Minaj gave saints and sinners a royal red devilish ensemble with chosen designer Oscar De la Renta gown.

 'Like a Prayer' Madonna arrived in a respectful Jean Paul Gaultier black and gold gown accessorised with a crown, crosses and mesh mask.. 

JLO stole the show in the beauty stakes with breathtaking entrance in the designer Olivier Rousteing for Balmain.

Brows

Mascara

This is a must beauty secret to open the eyes and create the illusion of fuller, longer healthy lashes, especially for those who have not joined the army of women who love lash extensions. Keep the bright coloured mascaras for your days at home but black brown and dark navy can greatly accentuate the eyes. I wish that all mascaras added, thickness and volume, with exceptional water resistance and conditioning formula's, but they don't so establish your favourite look for your lashes and make this a beauty must have. The availability and choice is outstanding, choose a brand that doesn't get clumpy, and leave the raccoon eyes to the novices by adding a thin layer of primer to the base of the eyes and the lids, this will cut down on creasing and smudging. The shape of the wand delivers that all important blast of intense colour to those lashes, and is important in your ability to rotate or wiggle the wand, practise and find the best technique.

Do not to pump the mascara as you will allow air and bacteria into the opening of the mascara and possibly contaminate the product. Once you have completed your lash application let them dry, and for a much fuller look apply another layer to MAXIMISE the effect..

Blusher 

Have fun selecting the best blusher for your skin type and face shape, contour carefully using powder, stick, naturally flattering corals, soft rose toned palette, or for ladies of colour radiant brown and copper shades look amazing. Shimmers are great for creating those stunning cheek bones, with an illusion of natural highlight just above the bone to add shine especially with bronzers. A pop of blush on the apple of the cheeks will add immediate warmth to your skin tone, swirl the brush causing the pigment to give a great payoff (shine and density) 
Avoid harsh reds, electric bright pinks which under office lighting, can have the opposite of your desired look and offer on camera a overused and painted doll look!  Use a fan brush to create an even and smooth application, keep your blush directly within your eye line using celebrity makeup artist tricks. 
Layering is the best trick, find the perfect shade for your business functions, tap the brush before application to take off the excess powder and slow light sweeping action will deliver the best results.

Lipstick

Gentle exfoliation of the lips will ensure that the lipstick application is always smooth, always use sun protection in this area as the lips have the thinnest skin and can easily burn. Lip balms and lip oils will condition and repair dry chapped skin. Choose a shade that will compliment your natural makeup look without being too harsh or overtly sexy on camera. Keeping the focus simple, remember lip liner is not always needed, however to enhance the cupids bow with precision start in the centre of your lips with a sharpened lip pencil and work out to the corner blending with a clean lip brush, blend, then blot lipstick this will ensure a longer lasting finish, then blot again.
